Who is Mrs. Marilyn Andrews?
When my name showed up as your child’s teacher, I’m sure you asked yourself that question. Well, let me tell you a little about me.
I’ve been a teacher at St. Johns for 28 years. I have always taught at Catholic schools. I attended Catholic school from K- College and love my Faith so it is a natural place for me to be. I love teaching and I have taken care to stay updated in all areas. I have my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialty in Gifted and Talented. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham which is a phonics program for children with reading, spelling, and dyslexic problems. I have taken many classes on student writing and subscribe to several sites to keep me motivated in that very difficult area to teach. I am passionate about reading and my room is filled with books to encourage reading in my students. I don’t even remember how many math classes I’ve taken! I also pursued Administrator's Licensure but stopped just short when I realized that I could not leave the classroom
The greatest thing that happened to me is that I became a Grandma in July, 2015. Andrew Theodore is the most wonderful child -- even surpassing his Uncle and Mom! His Mom was a Second Grade teacher but will be a Learning Coach in Differentiated Instruction so she can be home more with Andrew. His Uncle has two dogs that keep him busy. My husband and I are learning how to give attention to all!
If your children come home and tell you that I go to Walt Disney World every year, believe them! Forty years ago we took our son for just 2 days (only had Magic Kingdom). As we were driving in my husband said, “We’re coming back.” I didn’t know that he meant every year! We love the whole resort – sometimes we skip the parks and sometimes we hit the parks like it’s our first time. Andrew got to know the Wonderful World of Disney last spring! I need my Disney Magic to get me through the year! A special treat is to go at Christmas (not a good idea for first-timers) and we have also gone in the heat of summer (also not wonderful for first-timers). If you are planning a trip, I’ve been known to help many people figure out their trips for maximum enjoyment and also have some money-saving ideas (Driving was our big secret until about 3 years ago)!
